In an effort to help budding political professionals better prepare for careers in government-related fields, many campus-based and online schools are creating degree programs that focus on this subject.

For instance, an Ottawa-based school recently received a $15 million donation that will be used to create a masters program in political management, the Ottawa Citizen reports.

School officials say that this one-year course of study will ensure that individuals who enter the government will have a better foundational knowledge of politics, as many of these professionals begin their careers without any formal training.

Similar programs could serve as ample preparation for individuals who wish to run for office. In addition, these students may be able to launch careers as political aides, legislative assistants, campaign managers, government advisors or policy liaison officers.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the demand for public relations specialists - including those who have been trained to work on political campaigns - is expected to increase by 24 percent over the next eight years, which is much faster than the average for all other occupations.
